After water crisis, ready for power crisis in Selangor?

After being blamed for an impending water crisis, the Selangor government is now being blamed for an impending electricity shortage crisis.

According to Bernama, Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) said Selangor and Kuala Lumpur will face a power crisis if the state continues to put the brakes on the company’s Central Reinforcement Area (CAR).

“We have held 27 meetings with the Selangor Economic Action Council and hope the state government will quickly make a decision to ensure the supply infrastructure is completed,” TNB vice-president Rozimi Remeli was quoted as saying.

The CAR project, which began in 2005, involves the installation of high-voltage cables between Bukit Tarek, Rawang and Kampung Chubadak, Kuala Lumpur measuring 60km.

However, the utility company is now allowed to proceed with the installation of a remaining 1.5km of cables in the Kampung Sungai Terentang, Rawang area.

Kampung Sungai Terentang villagers are resisting attempts by TNB to construct the pylons through their village over health and safety reasons.

They have received the backing of the state government who have urged TNB to bypass the village instead, but the company have shot down the proposal.

Rozimi said there is an increasing need for electricity in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

He warned that investors would leave the country should electricity supply be disrupted.
